Why Graduate School?

Knowledge for Every Level

This is a frequently asked question: why pursue graduate school? There are several important reasons that highlight its significance for personal growth and societal advancement. Let's take a look at our ancient history during ancient Greece, knowledge was foundational for progress. The study of bodies initiated many mathematical and philosophical ideas that are still relevant. However, much of this knowledge was lost over time due to events like the burning of the of Alexandria and various wars. Most of what we know was traditionally transmitted orally from teacher to student. This personalized method of education remains effective today in our universities, ensuring that knowledge is shared and built upon. The same philosophy that was used thousands of years ago is still applied in master’s and doctoral programs, where students choose mentors to guide them through this challenging journey. This mentorship is crucial as it empowers us to preserve and create knowledge for future generations. While this may a romantic reason for pursuing graduate studies, the reality is that after spending four years earning a bachelor’s degree, not many would willingly endure an additional six years of hardship solely for the sake of knowledge preservation. show that, on average, individuals with a Master’s degree earn $500,000 more over their lifetime compared to those with just a bachelor’s. Similarly, PhD holders earn about $700,000 more than Master's graduates and $1.2 million more than Bachelor’s degree holders, particularly if they work in academia or industry. These figures can vary for those who choose to start their own businesses, but they highlight the significant financial incentives for obtaining a higher degree. Beyond financial gains, there are myriad reasons to pursue advanced education. This website serves a comprehensive resource on everything you need to know about graduate school, both its advantages and challenges. I will share experiences from many students who have navigated the path you are about to take. sure to check out the Resources page for valuable content and the forum page for discussions and insights from other Master's and Doctoral students.
